WRIGHT COUNTY’S

The Maple Lake Ice Fishing Derby began in 1975 by the Maple Lake Jaycees. Later, Maple Lake High School organized the event and then turned it over to the Maple lake Property owners Association in 2008.  The Lake Association took this from being a small town little contest to the premier event that it is today. Organizers put Maple Lake on the map showing its greatness.

Maple Lake Ice Fishing Derby is a family fun day starting with an Arctic Plunge. Historically 50-100 Plungers dare to jump in the frigid waters of Maple Lake. Then, there is an Antique Snowmobile Expo which displays some of the early snowmobiles of the world.  At 1:00 PM enjoy the excitment of a fast paced fishing contest which has most laughing there butts off while soaking up the beach filled sun and sipping on a exotic drinks. At 3:00 its off to the Ice Auger drilling contest.  Watch as the best ice drillers in the world challenge each other in a fight to be the “North American Ice Auger Champion”.

Finally, dance on a frozen dance floor to the “Naked Cowboys”.  Sneak off to your fish house (yes, we allow permanent structures) to enjoy a night of bed spins that you only read about or experience in college.
